Chronological One Year Bible Reading Plan: 2 Samuel 21-24

Scripture of the Day: Matthew 25:23

I have just watched a concert featuring two of Mozart‘s most played and popular concertos, played by the multi-awarded young violinist Ray Chen. The concertos are in themselves already extremely moving. However, the way that the artist played it exuded great emotional depth that not only moves the soul, but brings joy to the spirit.

When he did the solo parts without the orchestra, one can tell from their faces that even they, who are professional players, were awed by his performance. The way that the artist connected with his violin, and how he was able to interpret two of Mozart‘s most-loved works to enable the audience to connect with the sound he plays, was enthralling. The audience expected a wonderful performance. What was delivered exceeded that expectation.

As believers, we need to have that natural, and deep connection to our violin, i.e. the instrument that enables us to produce music that others can hear or listen to. Whatever sound we produce is a demonstration of how well we know our instrument, and how tightly we are connected to it. Our main instruments are our prayer life and bible study habits. The more we practice them, the deeper our connection becomes with God. When that happens, our lives can bear much fruit, which to those around us, is an evidence of God’s work in our lives. When we are able to produce beautiful and lovely music, i.e. acts and deeds that reflect God from within us and through us, others will be inspired to know how it is possible. Then, they themselves would be encouraged to want to know about God.

Like the connection between the original composer and music, the violin, the artist and the music produced, the flow of connection between God, our spiritual life, the fruits we bear and how all these are reflected to the world should come naturally and with great depth. The more we practice, the more profound our relationship with God becomes. With that, the music we produce resonates with much joy, brightness, and warmth. Who wouldn’t want to listen to and be encouraged by such music?

Reflection: What kind of music are you able to generate? Do you set time to practice regularly? Nonetheless, although the world is our audience who could be impacted by our music, our Maestro still has the final say.

Prayer: Dear God, instill in me the habit of conversing with you everyday and reflecting on your words. Thank you for the resources you make available to me to have a deeper connection with you. May the music I produce not only impact the lives of others, but most of all, be a pleasing sound to you. Amen.
