Speak life over your kids

Scripture of the Day: Joel 2:28-29

The Lord has promised that He will pour out His Spirit to all people. He said that young people will prophesy, dream dreams, and see visions (Joel 2:28-29).

The Lord already knew us even before He formed us and placed us in our mother’s wombs (Psalm 138). The plans that He has for our lives were already drafted even before we were born. Since this is the case, the enemy is already prowling at our children, even those yet to be formed, and born. He knows that our loving Father has plans for each of us, even the little ones. He knows that God has good plans for their hope and future (Jeremiah 29:11).

Yes, God already has plans for the zygote in your womb. He has a purpose for the baby in your arms. He has a glowing hope for your toddler who just spoke his first word. He has a beautiful future for your grade schooler and your teenager. Since the devil knows they are, for the sake of His kingdom, going to be used of God, by God, and for God, even now that they appear so naive and innocent, they are already under attack.

There is an enormous amount of mass media that could influence our children in their growing years. Have you been monitoring and guiding what they view on television? Do you scrutinize the video games they play? Do you hold regular conversations with them with genuine interest to know how they are doing?

One of the enemy’s strongholds against our children exists in the environment they are in – what and who they interact with. The rampant use, easy access and constant availability of resources on the internet and other forms of mass media these days actually help shape the mind set, character and future of our children.

Since these are the things our children constantly interact with, it is no wonder that the enemy injects his poison into them. In his goal to target our children, he does so in tremendously subtle ways. Your child watches a seemingly safe cartoon series. Unbeknownst to you, there could be elements in the cartoon that are actually harmful to the formative years of your child.

Subtle ways – these used to be how the devil tries to gradually win people to be on his side. But nowadays, he uses a different approach. He actually has become blatant and conspicuous. However, people either still fail to see or we have become so accustomed to it that we lost our discernment. Therefore, we have to pray for our children more today than we ever had yesterday.

Speak life over your children. The Word of God is living. It is active and alive. Pray it over your children. Speak it over them.

Reflection: If we become too tolerant and lenient about what we allow society to teach our children, we endanger them. Our main weapon is to seal them with God’s blessings and promises found in His Word. Then, we back that up with scrutinizing what the world throws their way.

Prayer: Father, I would always be grateful to you for my children – both biological and spiritual. In their youth, enable them to find you. They are taught of the Lord and they are yours. Thank you for your protection. Amen.
