Ultimate grace

Chronological One Year Bible Reading Plan: 2 Samuel 14-17

Scripture of the Day: Ephesians 2:8-9

When God forgives us of our sins, sparing us from the punishment that we deserve, He shows His mercy. Meanwhile, when He showers us with extreme blessings that we do not deserve, He demonstrates His grace.

Since the Lord is ever gracious unto us (Psalm 145:8), although we are sinful and unworthy, He embraces us with arms wide open. He calls us forth to Him and says, “Here, my child, run to me. Whatever it is that you need, ask it of me, and I shall be your Provider” (Matthew 7:7).

He bestows blessings to both believers and unbelievers alike. Although many in this world have unfortunately not yet acknowledged God as Creator and Jesus as Lord and Savior, they would still experience His good gifts here on earth. He sends rain and provides food for everyone. This is called common grace. This common grace points those who do not believe, to Him.

If God shows grace to both those who believe and do not, it should not come as a surprise that believers receive a special grace. Through their acknowledgment of Jesus as Lord and Savior, believers receive the grace of salvation (Romans 10:9). Furthermore, as God’s children, we become co-inheritors of Christ (Romans 8:17, 1 Peter 1:4). We share in Christ’s suffering as we carry our cross daily and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). Nevertheless, we would also share in His glory.

We need not do anything to receive this grace, except acknowledge our sinfulness and turn to God. That, is unfathomable, ultimate grace!

Reflection: Have you ever felt or toyed with the idea that God does not love you? When these moments come, remember His grace. It is always sufficient for you!

Prayer: Father, I praise you for your loving kindness. Your ultimate grace is something I do not deserve. I am grateful. Amen.
