Easter bread

Chronological One Year Bible Reading Plan: Matthew 14-16

Scripture of the Day: Luke 24:1-12

Tsoureki is a Greek sweet yeast bread, made during Easter. The flour is molded into shape, rises and takes on life as it is prepared for baking. It symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus.

For three days, the Lord was lying in the tomb after His death. Having taken the form of man to dwell amongst us, He offered up His life and died on the cross. However, that tomb did not remain occupied for long. For just as He prophesied, He came back to life (Mark 9:30-32). He has overcome sin and death.

Christ demonstrated His power to raise people back to life. He did this while He was on the earth. Then, eventually, He also raised Himself back to life. This tells us, how He, on the last day, is also able to resurrect us and give us glorified bodies, as believers (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). This is the completion of His redemptive work in our life. He showed us that He has power over death, and therefore, we also have life after death in the body.

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.“ (John 11:25). Those who believe in Him as the One sent by the Father, receives eternal life (John 17:3). If we believe and declare Him as Lord and Savior of our life, confess and turn away from our sinful ways, we shall be saved (Romans 10:9-11).

Reflection: Do you already know where you will go after earthly death? Have you placed your trust in Jesus Christ, who is the Resurrection and the Life, to forgive your sins and give you the promise of resurrection and eternal life?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I know that I am sinful, yet you thought of me and love me. I declare you as Lord and Savior of my life. I give you my life and ask you to take control of it completely. Thank you for the gift of salvation and the hope of a bodily resurrection after earthly death. Amen.
