When the devil starts pulling
Chronological One Year Bible Reading Plan: Matthew 8-10
Scripture of the Day: Matthew 27:45-54
As a kid, I learned a song during vacation bible school. A part of it goes, “When the devil starts pulling, pulling your leg, shake it loose as hard as you can. And don’t forget, the Lord above, will give you a helping hand.“
We all go through motions. There are moments when the enemy just come knocking on your door like crazy. So you would open your door. Then, as you’re walking, he sets traps all over the place that there’s always one you would miss recognizing and eventually fall into. There are thankfully, however, also those days when no matter how hard he knocks or however many traps he sets before your path, you are able to hold your ground.
This should tell you something. Although you may be defeated at one time or another, you know that you can stand up to him and win. After all, Jesus already won the battle on the cross for us. The enemy has no hold over you! He only does if you would allow him to.
Since his ultimate goal in life is to pull you down together with him in hell, do not expect any other. That’s the only job he knows to do. Therefore, we need to always be watchful of his traps. Most traps are well conceived and concealed that when you fall, you would only realize you did when you already did.
Nonetheless, as evil progresses in the world, it appears that the works of Satan which used to be well-hidden to trick you easily are now becoming more rampant. He doesn’t even try to dress it up anymore. Most of his works are out in the open. Sadly, many are buying them as acceptable, even good. But when light is shown, we can know that only God is good! (Luke 18:19)
Therefore, we need to be watchful more than ever before. When the devil starts to pull your leg, shake it loose as hard as you can. Then, kick him. Above all, do not forget that the Lord always sends help!

Reflection: If you belong to Christ, you have been purchased by His blood. Therefore, Satan has no power over you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your victory over sin and death. Thank you for your victory over the enemy. Thank you that you have triumphed on the cross, for me. Amen.
