The same rain
Chronological One Year Bible Reading Plan: Judges 5-7
Scripture of the Day: Matthew 5:45
How gracious is our God? Matthew has recorded these words of Jesus, “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.“ Both those who acknowledge Him and those who don’t get to enjoy the benefits of His created world. He doesn’t distinguish between His children and those of the world. He blesses both.
Sometimes we would think it to be unfair whenever we witness those who are not believers, to seem to be living blessed lives. When God designed the laws of nature, they do not only extend to those who has put their trust in Him. For example, those who give generously to charity whether they are believers or non-believers, prosper in life. It is because the law of giving (Luke 6:38) applies to all, whether we are God’s children or not. Likewise, all other laws of nature operate in the same manner.
We all bask in the same blessings. Nonetheless, God acknowledges those who come to Him for help. As a Father, He grants the requests of His children. Matthew records these life-giving words of Christ once again, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:11) The one thing that distinguishes us from those who have not put their faith in Him, when it comes to experiencing His blessings is that, as His children, we have the privilege to a special access to come before His throne and bring our concerns before Him.
Nevertheless, because He is extremely generous, our God showers His blessings to all people regardless of whether or not they believe in Him. If that alone doesn’t testify of God’s goodness, I wonder what else does.

Reflection: Our privilege as children of God doesn’t include an exclusive right to His blessings. God extends His blessings to all, whether they believe in Him or not. If that disturbs or troubles you, you may not yet have grasped the fact that while we were still sinners, He already showed His love for us, when Christ died for our sins (Romans 5:8). Jesus already bought the price for your sins, even before you have acknowledged Him as your Savior. But we could only enjoy the privileges of the gift, once we accepted it.
Prayer: Lord, help me be reminded of your humongous love for mankind. You suffered and died for every tribe, language, people and nation. You are not a respecter of persons. You died for all. Thank you for your graciousness! Amen.
