New beginnings

Chronological One Year Bible Reading Plan: Deuteronomy 15-18

Scripture of the Day: Song of Songs 2:10-13

One of the more conspicuous signs that spring is coming despite the snow still making an appearance this week, would be the floral buds re-emerging from the ground below. Just imagine how their life must have been, buried deep on the ground all throughout the winter season. They’re hidden deep into the earth, without any source of light. However, once they pushed their way up at springtime, they can once again enjoy their interaction with the world above the ground, and some sunlight.

When we are buried deep into our problems, we may feel suffocated and trapped. We no longer see the light of day. This could in turn lead to depression and anxiety. But just like spring which comes every after winter, where flowers bloom once again – a sign of nature coming back to life, there are new mercies for us every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). We will definitely not remain deep into the ground. Gradually, we will resurface, springing back to life, leaving the past behind. Although winter is cold and dark, the warmth of God’s love, together with His light, would enable us to emerge out of the dark ground anew.

Just wait. Life has seasons. After each winter, each trouble, there is always a springtime that follows. There is always an end to every trouble.

Reflection: The joy that comes from hope is the ultimate weapon against any form of misfortune or trouble that comes our way. Even when there’s sorrow, the lasting joy that resides in our hearts helps us gather strength. And so, with it, we rise.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I place my hope in you. In all the winters I have been through, you have pulled me up. You always make me spring back to life once more. Thank you for reviving my sorrowful heart. Amen.
