Privy Pieces and Prayer

Ifjgbv1xi50x0vp8-medium was digging through my old files until I chanced upon a very special folder containing
some of my personal writings. I have quite a handful, I guess. I would say, enough material to write a book. I have never shared most of them with anyone else. If the Lord calls me home tomorrow, it would be pitiful that I kept them all to myself, I believe. Well, not that I think highly of me enough to consider that any of my writings might be beneficial to others. Still, I am sort of sure that statistically, there is always a 50-50 chance that someone out there who gets to read my senseless thoughts on paper can make some sense out of them. For this reason, I decided to defy the sacredness of my soul and make public what I trust to be most useful. Who knows, I might home in on someone´s heart at a time when a gentle whisper is needed.

“Whisper to the Wind”

(Written on November 10, 2008 during a working break in the laboratory)

I whispered to the breeze

That touched my cheek

I whispered to the ground

Beneath my feet

I hoped that my whisper

Is carried by the wind

Through thousand miles of earth

To the air that you would breathe

Then perhaps you would inhale

The tragedy of me

Wondering how you are

And if you also think of me

whispers_in_thewind

I did not write this addressing a real person in existence, as far as I can remember. It´s one of those I would now call

“Ellaine´s crazy ounce of imagining things”.

But I am grateful I have such a great tendency to imagine and let my thoughts wander about. It helps me soar. It helps me reach worlds far cast out than my own. It helps me touch what is beyond my reach.

Beyond my reach.

I have learned in one of my theology classes that for the longest time in early church history, theologically, people have considered God to be that “Wholly Other”. This terminology pertains to who God is, as opposed to the rest of everything else. God is holy, immutable, omnipresent, omnipotent, infinite. In short, He is different – “wholly other” compared to the rest of us. He is a far-distanced God somewhere out there in the heavens. But then, the truth is, this “Wholly Other” is not really far far out there in wherever far far away is. He is much nearer to us than we can ever imagine. In fact, He has provided a means by which He can reveal Himself to us. And that is by Him revealing Himself in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. In turn, once we receive Christ, we are endowed with the Holy Spirit who enables us to communicate with God and bring us closer to Him in an intimate dealing called relationship.

When you are in a relationship with someone, it is very important to make the lines of communication always open. You have to constantly speak to that person, listen to what that person has to say. Communication is one major key to enjoy a healthy, thriving relationship. With that in mind, as I ponder on the lines of the poem I wrote some eight years ago, I would not have to wonder if my whisper is being heard. I need not wonder if the wind carries my whispers. I need not wonder if the person is also thinking of me.

God hears me day in and day out (1 John 5:14).

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Even the gentlest of my whispers does not go unnoticed by him (Psalm 116:1).

I love the Lord, because He has heard

My voice and my supplications.

And He always thinks of me (Psalm 139:17-18).

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with You.

This line of communication is called

PRAYER.Praying Woman

Sometime in 2011, I participated in a back-to-back prayer conference in two different locations. One of them I joined personally, one through on-line streaming. Below are the notes I have doodled on my pad:

Thoughts on Prayer

1. By Doug Small

“Jesus didn´t come to the world to preach. He came to pray because Father God needs someone to stand in between the gap. He found nobody that would go down on their knees and intercede.”

When you pray:

  • Pray out loud
  • Pray with passion
  • Anchor your prayer to the Word (i.e. Pray the Bible!)
  • Pray in the Holy Spirit (When the anointing to pray comes, then you pray in power)
  • Pray with understanding
  • Pray with the leading of the Holy Spirit
  • Anticipate and Wait
  • Get yourself in a position to hear.
  • Wrap it all up in thanksgiving.

2. By Bob Fraser

Prayer is not coming to God with your prayer list.

Prayer should be relationship-based.

Love-based prayer:

Adoration – declaring God´s nature and attributes; blessing and praising God´s name; boasting in the spirit world how great God is.

Example of how to do this: Use your alphabet! (The following is my own example):

  • God you´re Adorable

  • God you´re Beautiful beyond description

  • God you´re the Conqueror of sin and death

Worship – declaring to God how much you love Him.

I am so thankful I was given the privilege to pray – to communicate with the Maker of the entire universe who has all the time in the world for me and whose attention I hold 24/7!

Beat that. 🙂

I cannot think of any relationship more special than what I enjoy with God. With that, I am so very grateful beyond words on a paper could ever express.
